What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with human function and movement and maximising potential:
It uses physical approaches to promote, maintain
and restore physical, psychological and social well-being, taking account of variations in health status.
It is science-based, committed to extending,
applying, evaluating and reviewing the evidence that underpins and informs its practice and delivery.
The exercise of clinical judgement and informed
interpretation is at its core.

Curriculum Framework.)
Physiotherapists at the Valley Physiotherapy Clinic are experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapists. They are members
of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and have undertaken extensive post-graduate training. Continued professional development is
maintained through regular attendance at local and national courses.
Our Physiotherapy Treatments
A physiotherapist will prescribe different treatment or rehabilitation exercises depending on how your injury or complaint presents.
On initial consultation you will have a thorough physiotherapy assessment of your presenting complaint. This will help
identify the best treatment option for you. All of our physiotherapy treatments are then individually tailored.
Physiotherapy can be used for injuries sustained as a result of sport, daily activity or related to your occupation. We
are experts at dealing promptly and effectively with acute injuries, such as those seen in athletes.
We also have a great deal of experience in using physiotherapy to deal with chronic pain and conditions which have often
failed to respond to other interventions.
First Visit
During your first consultation, the physiotherapist will carry out a full assessment which will take up to 45 minutes. During this
first visit the physiotherapist will take a
detailed history of your condition together with any relevant medical history. A
physical assessment will then be carried out to determine the clinical diagnosis of your problem.
The physiotherapist will discuss their findings with you and propose a treatment plan. This may include a wide
range of hands-on therapy techniques, the use of electrotherapy equipment, exercises, and advice for self-treatment and
prevention of further problems. We are qualified to administer acupuncture for musculo-skeletal conditions.
Valley Physiotherapy Clinic understands the importance of how your condition may be affected by your lifestyle and how
it may influence treatment and recovery. Emphasis will be on a realistic approach to treatment based on your individual needs.
Every opportunity will be given for you to ask questions. We believe it is important for you to understand your
condition. You will be given advice regarding management and prevention in the future.
Appointments
You do not need to be referred for private physiotherapy by your GP, however if you intend to claim the cost of your treatment through
an insurance scheme, check with your insurer first as their procedures may differ. The initial assessment and treatment is 45 minutes.
Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes.
